Environment

Arrowtown is nestled among the mountains by the Arrow River. The environment has been much modified by the presence of humans – the gold miners sluiced out the river beds, early settlers planted invasive exotic species and introduced predator animals and the tradition of burning wood for heat has led to pollution problems in winter. The Arrowtown Village Association is working with local environmental organisations to maintain the balance here.
