Playgrounds

There are dozens of reserves in and around Arrowtown, ranging from pocket-handkerchief patches of grass among the houses to the long string of reserves running beside the river, where children can play. A number of the neighbourhood parks also have playgrounds, including Tipperary Place, Reed Park (between Adamson Drive and Cotter Avenue) and Jack Reid Park, between the rugby field and the campground. There is a basketball half court at Shanahan Lane Reserve.

Rose Douglas Park

Rose Douglas Park, at the intersection of Wiltshire and Berkshire Streets is a favourite with little kids. The modern playground makes a nod to the fire station next door with a replica of a fire engine to play on, in addition to the usual swings, slide, and so on. In spring the reserve is especially beautiful as the heritage roses bloom.

Arrowtown School

The school has two sets of play structures that anyone is welcome to use outside school hours. Close to Chalmers Place is a traditional playground for younger children, while running along Centennial Avenue is a more challenging obstacle course for older children – and adults prepared to give it a go!
