Queenstown Lakes District Council is consulting the community at the moment on the Spatial Plan for the Queenstown Lakes, the Ten Year Plan, a review of fees and charges, and the Parks and Open Spaces Strategy.
GROW WELL | WHAIORA - Spatial Plan
A draft Queenstown Lakes Spatial Plan has been developed which proposes a vision and framework for how and where our district will grow in the future, in this case looking out to 2050. It will guide decisions, and investment across local, regional and central government, to ensure QLDC is delivering the best possible future for our community and the generations that will follow us.
The draft Spatial Plan is based around the phrase ‘Grow Well’ or ‘Whaiora’ in Te Reo Māori which translates to 'in the pursuit of wellness'. It aims to support positive change that benefits the wellbeing of the whole district both now and in the future

Ten Year Plan 2021-31
Every three years the Council must adopt a Ten Year Plan which is the blueprint for investment in the district's infrastructure and services over the next ten years.
The Ten Year Plan 2021-2031 is the big picture of where we’re heading as a district and how we’ll get there. It proposes an ambitious capital investment programme and covers all of the services Council provides and the projects we propose to either deliver or begin within the next ten years.
Your thoughts will help shape our district, now and for generations to come – so get involved!

Planning and Development Fees and Charges
QLDC is proposing a number of changes to the fee schedules for work associated with building consents, resource consents, resource management engineering and other related fees.
The objective of the changes is to better align the initial fee paid with the actual and reasonable costs of completing the work. The proposed changes aim to better align the costs of consenting and approval processes with Council’s funding policy for Planning and Development, which is to achieve an 80/20 private/public split.

Parks and Open Spaces Strategy
Council provides a range of different open spaces that provide a variety of experiences for the community and visitors who use parks. The Strategy sets out the key experiences that the open space network should deliver both within new subdivisions and developments, and existing urban areas. Ensuring the open space network delivers these experiences is the primary focus of the Parks and Open Spaces Strategy.
The document's vision is to provide a rich and diverse network of open spaces that are valued by the community and are protected and enhanced for future generations.
